Lauren Butler and Ashley Telleen founded the law firm of Butler & Telleen with one thing in mind: you. We offer a client-centered approach to our practice and you will be our focus from the first day you walk through our doors through the conclusion of your case.

Lauren started her legal career as a prosecutor and Ashley as a public defender, and together we have a passion for law and our clients. This combined background provides us with a breadth of experience and knowledge that we apply to each case. But we understand that ultimately results are what matters most. Every case is unique and might require a different approach. Lauren and Ashley recognize when it’s necessary to use a soft approach and alternatively, when a more aggressive tactic is required. Lauren Butler

Lauren Butler found her passion for criminal defense while she was working as a Deputy District Attorney in the 5^th Judicial District. During her time prosecuting cases, too often she witnessed how little justice there is in the criminal justice system, especially for those individuals not represented by counsel. She saw first-hand how many times prosecutors and the government use their power to secure guilty pleas in cases that would have been very defensible with the proper legal representation. She’s seen people’s constitutional rights violated and unfair courtroom proceedings occur when the cards are stacked against inexperienced defendants. This is the reason Lauren chose to cross the aisle into defense work. She now passionately and aggressively represents her clients to ensure that their rights are never violated and that they’re never manipulated into pleading guilty just because the powerful government charged them with a crime. She uses her previous prosecutorial experience to her and her clients’ advantage as she’s now in the unique position where she can apply this perspective to the best defense possible. Lauren fights hard to hold the government to their burden and to make sure that each of her clients gets their fair day in court with zealous legal representation every step of the way.

Lauren has successfully defended cases ranging from petty offenses and misdemeanors to serious felonies, including homicide charges. She has secured countless not guilty verdicts, dismissals of cases, and favorable plea bargains and sentences. Lauren applies her aggressive representation to civil matters as well. She’s handled an array of cases including personal injury claims, family law and custody battles, civil protection orders, and landlord-tenant disputes.

Lauren has lived in New York, Florida, Michigan, and Los Angeles before calling Colorado home since 2010. She now enjoys all the perks that living in this beautiful state has to offer, including skiing, hiking, and camping. Law is a second career for her following a five-year stint working as a video game producer in California where she created games for various movie and television titles. She embarked on her legal journey when she attended law school at the University of Colorado in Boulder. While there she was an active member of student organizations including writing for the school run environmental journal, practicing in the criminal defense clinic, and participating in various mock trials. She even co-founded a student group focused on criminal law.

Lauren brings her passion for law to each of her cases. She understands how overwhelming the legal system can be and prides herself on being able to bring peace of mind and understanding of this complicated world to her clients. Above all else, Lauren enjoys the opportunity to be an attorney her clients can depend on and trust in their time of need.

Ashley Telleen

Ashley has always had a passion for criminal defense. She discovered how often people can get lost in the system and has always worked to fight for her clients. Ashley spent many years as an attorney at the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office before embarking into private practice. Throughout her career she has dealt with thousands of cases. Ashley has litigated Driving Under the Influence cases to Homicides and everything in between.

Ashley has extensive trial experience and is willing to take your case all the way to a jury. She also understands that each client and case are unique and there is no one size fits all resolution. If you believe you need help and treatment is right for you Ashley is an expert in various programs and alternative sentencing options. While at the Public Defender’s Office Ashley served as a voting member on the Boulder Community Corrections Board. She was also part of the treatment team for the Adult Integrated Treatment Court (Drug Court). Ashley will make sure that you understand all your options so you can make an informed decision about how to proceed with your case.

Ashley has lived in San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles before returning to her hometown in Colorado to pursue her legal career. Prior to attending law school Ashley worked for the Walt Disney Company managing live shows and special events. She earned her JD from the University of Colorado School of Law. While in law school Ashley participated in many organizations focused on criminal Defense. She volunteered with the Colorado Innocence Project (now the Korey Wise Innocence Project). Ashley also participated in the Criminal Defense Legal Clinic and Mock Trial. Ashley is still active with the University of Colorado Law community and has taught sessions of Trial Advocacy to current law students.
